Acne Treatment – Actions To Avoid Those Breakouts

18 Nov

There are several precautions you can take to avoid at least some acne breakouts. The following tips are some of the major ones:

Diet and Nutrition: Even though science has not found a direct link between diet and acne it is very important to maintain healthy eating habits and to remember that each person are is unique. While greasy hamburgers may not have a harmful effect on some people they may cause lots of problems for others. There are many reports from individual acne sufferers that certain drinks or foods (it seems that nuts are particularly suspect) make their acne worse. All that can be said about this is pay attention to what you eat and how it affects you over the next few days. Another important diet key is drinking lots of water. If you drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day it will help flush toxins out of your system and tend to keep your complexion healthier.

Cosmetics and toiletries: Some cosmetics and toiletries may clog up your pores — if your pores are clogged up your body will automatically increase its production of sebum (the natural body oil) and with nowhere to go, this will trigger an increase in the P.acnes bacteria that causes acne inflammation problems. Some of the products that clog up pores might include foundation make-up, night creams and moisturizers. The cosmetics and toiletries that have this effect of clogging up pores are called comedogenic products (because they help create comedones which are large, deep, pus-filled pimples). Products that do NOT have this comedogenic effect are usually labeled as “non-comedogenic” — so when shopping for cosmetics and toiletries try looking for those labeled “non-comedogenic.” One other thing, avoid going to bed with make-up on — you’ll just be grinding those cosmetics into your pores with your bedding.

Environment and hygiene: The environment plays a role in the development of skin blemishes. Dirt, dust and other pollutants in the air can irritate your skin and even block up your pores. This brings up the very important subject of washing your face.

You may think you know how to wash your face — you’ve been doing it all your life, right? Well you may have been causing some acne problems. Washing the face twice a day can prevent acne — washing your face six or seven times a day can wash away skin oils, causing your sebaceous glands to create more skin oil — and perhaps over-produce skin oil and cause acne problems. Washing your face or entire body GENTLY twice a day (or even up to four times a day) with a very gentle soap will leave you with a clean face and body and should minimize acne problems. SCRUBBING with a rough wash cloth, however clean and refreshed that makes you feel, is very hard on your skin and will, almost certainly, create acne problems by scrubbing away natural skin oils and actually damaging your hair follicles. If you are subject to acne breakouts, treat your skin very kindly and it will be kinder to you in the long run.

Sunlight isn’t your friend: If you are battling acne, avoid direct sunlight as much as possible and avoid tanning booths or sunlamps altogether. Some sources will tell you that tanning helps clear up acne. That is not true. Tanning simply masks acne. Another thing to consider is that some acne treatments cause your skin to be ultra-sensitive to sunlight, sun lamps and the ultraviolet light used in tanning booths. Having acne makes it very important to avoid sunburns so be sure to use sunscreen when you have to be out in the sun and be sure to wash it off when it is not needed any longer.

Hands off the face: Every time you open a door, pick up an item at the grocery store or shake hands with your good friend down at the corner store you get germs and bacteria on your hands. Every time you put those hands on your face to start a chemical reaction that may result in a breakout of acne. So your best bet is to keep your hands off your face.

Don’t pop those zits: Avoid squeezing your pimples, the only thing you will accomplish is spreading the infection that caused the pimples — it will also, by the way, cause permanent scarring. That is certainly worth consideration. Your pimples may appear to be ugly to you but the scars you get later will be uglier and more permanent. Use an acne medication and make the best of what you’ve got. If it becomes a medical necessity to have a pimple removed, that’s what doctors are for — your medical necessities.

Loose clothing . . . that’s the ticket: When you wear tight clothing you are creating friction on your skin and actually causing trauma to your hair follicles; that may not seem like a big deal but it is over time. The thing to keep in mind is if you have acne problems, it is not only an inconvenience, its sign . . . a sign that your body is out of balance — and it’s a delicate balance. Creating unnecessary friction and pressure on your skin can only cause problems; wear loose clothing to give your skin a break . . . and avoid a breakout.

Be Acne Free in 14 Days

With the increasing rate of pollution, there has also been an increase in skin problems. It is a misconceived notion that acne outburst occurs due to unhealthy conditions and unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle. These are however not true. External factors are not wholly responsible for the outbreak of acne, it is true that some foods could result into acne formation. You cannot blame it completely on the unhealthy lifestyle and dietary habits.

Some tips for becoming acne free in 14 days are as follows:

Avoid touching the spot where acne has developed:

It is not a good idea to rub the acne and popping zits. However tempting I may be to pop it out, avoid doing this as it could cause scars. These scars also take time to fade. Some scars take as much as a year to disappear. When you pop that yellow zit, the acne is not going to get rid of . The greater the pressure you exert on it, the puss would spread to the nearby parts. It would happen that one fine day; you get up and notice new zits growing on your face.

Remain Hydrated by drinking at least 2 liters of water daily

Water is a universal hydrant. Ensure that the body gets the requisite amount of water. Drinking close to 2 liters of water daily helps in flushing out the toxins from the body. It helps in cleansing the digestive and circulatory system. When the body remains well hydrated, the body works in a better fashion and gets rid of organisms which cause acne.

Refrain from using cosmetics and other beauty products

Make sure the beauty products you use are not oil based as these are absolutely not friends with acne. When you apply these lotions and cream based products, it prevents the pores from breathing and they get clogged. Irrespective of whether you have attracted acne or not, ensure you use cosmetics which are meant for acne suffered skin.

Ensure you get lots of sunshine and fresh air

Sunshine is necessary for the skin. Vitamin D is a very important component if you want your skin to be free from acne and glowing. More fresh air and sunshine means your skin is able to breathe well. This is important for rejuvenating your skin, mind and body.

Exercise

For a healthy skin and body, ensure you stay healthy by regular exercising. Brisk walking is a very good exercise and it helps to tone bones, muscles and the skin as well. When we walk, you are able to remove the toxins from the body by way of sweating. Hence, make sure you engage in outdoor activities for staying fit and healthy. A fit and healthy leads to a healthy skin.

Gently wash your face

Make sure you scrub your face gently only with plain water. Avoid soaps which are harsh on the skin and they would damage the skin further. It could lead more outbreaks of acne.

Acne Myths, Finally Some Facts

Acne is a common skin condition, which can be extremely mild or quite disfiguring. Having had a rather bad case as a young adolescent, I know the kind of socially embarrassing consequences it can have for the victim but I also remember it being sore and painful, filling my life with discomfort. It lingered a long time until I went to a dermatologist who used a type of freezing process, mechanically removing excessive puss from the lesions in relatively non-painful way. There were also topical notions. The result was total success, without scarring.
Until I went to a dermatologist, though, there was little or no gain in getting rid of this foul condition. I, like other children, were subject to disturbing concepts of its origins. Although this was a long time ago, these myths have stayed around- often causing grave delays in seeking treatment.
One of the myths is that acne is caused by everyday dirt and surface oil on the skin and that the solution is frequent and vigorous washing of the skin. Vigorous washing of the face to cure acne is a myth. The fact is- the problems that have caused chronic acne are deeper, beneath the skin’s surface and that only a mild washing of the face is in order, often accompanied with specific solutions prescribed for treating the acne by a dermatologist. Vigorous washing of the face, particularly with harsh soaps, can lead to a further irritation of the tissue. There is, in part, a bacteriological condition that contributes to acne and it is below the surface.
Another idea is that acne is caused by stress. Scientific research seems to indicate that stress alone probably does not lead to acne, but it may be aggravated by stress. But, unfortunately, acne can result from certain prescriptions that are used to treat stress. So, if you are on certain drugs related to stress, you should certain talk to your dermatologist, the appropriate type of physician for dealing with this problem. According to Doctor James Fulton, a pioneer in the treatment of acne, lithium, a substance sometimes used in profound psychological disorders, can aggravate an acne condition.
Another myth that can lead to profoundly unpleasant consequences is that one should let acne run its course, “grow out of it.” As I myself know too well, acne can linger for years and get worse and worse. At the end of my experience, my acne was very disfiguring and covered my whole face and part of my neck. It was hard to keep my hands off this uncomfortable, scaly, itchy and sore condition. I was certainly a candidate for scarring. I had a kind of skin emergency and I am glad that my parents were smart enough and lucky enough to get me to the right place at the right time.
Can acne be the consequence of poor nutrition? I think the jury may be out on this one, but, for myself, I came to believe that my excessive eating of chocolate and a lot of sugar products were contributing factors to my acne. But, in my case, I did not see any correlation before my medical treatment and it was clearly medical intervention that helped me. There are certainly many naturopathically oriented practitioners and some medical doctors that share this view, though. Not everything in medicine is a hundred percent clear cut and every acne victim should certainly research all the alternatives.

Acne can be a major nightmare for teenagers, having a deep impact on their physical as well as emotional well being. Acne Vulgaris forms in young adults and teenagers when pores of the skin are clogged with bacteria, dead cells and sebum. Hormonal changes occurring during puberty are the likely cause of the excess production of sebum. If you are suffering from acne outbreak, you can follow these tips to help control the problem:

1) Practice hygiene and cleanliness routines. The first and foremost thing to do is to wash your face and hands at least 5 to 8 times a day with a very gentle and mild cleansing agent. This will help reduce the bacteria on the skin and also remove excess oil and dead cells. It is essential to wash your face after you have gone out to remove the layer of pollutants from the surface of your skin.

2) It is important to keep your nails and hands away from your face as they harbor millions of germs which may get transferred to the face.

3) It is a bad idea to try to squeeze or pull out a pimple, no matter how great the urge may be because doing this will only worsen the acne besides leaving permanent scars on the face.

4) Good nourishment in the form of healthy, balanced meals is a good way to fight acne. You should eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, lower your intake of fats and grease, and drink lots of water as it will help to flush out toxins from the body.

5) Get plenty of rest as your skin is nourished during sleep and the pores get a chance to breathe during the night.

6) Do exercise regularly as this helps to flush out toxins in the form of sweat and also improves blood and oxygen circulation in the body.

If you follow these tips everyday and take appropriate treatment and personal care, you will be able to limit the damage caused by acne.

A Guide To The Acne Laser Skin Treatment

Acne is a skin condition that is defined by pustular eruptions, localized abscessed formations and local inflammatory conditions. It can be damaging to a person’s esteem and self-worth, especially in the more intense episodes, and the worst part of all is that it can often be very difficult, or even seemingly impossible to get rid of.

If you are one of the many people out there who are suffering from an acne skin condition, you should know that there are methods of treatment out there that you can use and which will help to relieve if not entirely get rid of your acne problem. One in particular is the acne laser skin treatment.

Acne Laser Skin Treatment

The acne laser skin treatment procedure is one which allows your physician or dermatologist to have precise control in terms of treatment, as the procedure works by gently vaporizing the damaged and scarred skin to reveal your fresh, beautiful skin underneath.

There is almost no pain in this procedure, one that is performed on an outpatient basis. That is right, you do not have to be admitted into the hospital or endure the dreaded experience of hospital food. You just have to go in for the procedure, which usually takes about a thirty minutes, and then you are free to go back home. The scars from your acne are able to be removed in a precise, bloodless, and easy fashion, and the acne laser skin treatment usually achieves great results, just remember that your skin will generally be pink and a bit tender for a couple of days afterwards, especially if you have very sensitive skin.

Results vary from one client to another, and so if you know a person that has already had the procedure completed, you can gauge their results as a starting point, but always remember that your results may not be the exact same. You may have better or worse results, depending on the complexity of your condition and also on how the procedure is conducted.

It would also be desirable to ensure that you have a meeting with your doctor before getting too serious about having the acne laser skin treatment procedure performed. Although it is considered a very common, minor procedure, it is still a surgery nonetheless. You should take it seriously and be alerted to the possible risks and side-effects that are involved.

Electronic Acne Zapper Versus Topical Acne Treatment

Electronic Acne Zapper Versus Topical Acne TreatmentIn your pursuit for the best acne treatment, you may have come across the electronic devices such as MyZeno that zaps zits with an impulse of heat. It all sounds very science fiction, I agree. However, it does actually have clinically proven results and is also endorsed by medical professionals. But, the million dollar question is; how effective is this as a long term acne treatment? When I first saw the MyZeno gadget it immediatley reminded me of a prop out of Star Trek, and the following amusing scenario came to mind. Most of the crew of the Star Ship Enterprise has been infected by a mysterious Alien rash which Dr ‘Bones’ McCoy decided to name it acne. The source of this infection was eminating from the planet below. An away team that had not yet been infected, was imediately beamed down to the planet surface to investigate.Mr. Spock: ”Captain, my Tri-Recorder is picking up millions of small objects heading this way.”Captain Kirk: ”Thank you Mr. Spock. Gentleman, put your MyZenos on stun and be careful.”A few minutes later, Commander Zulu comes running, almost tripping over one of those plastic rocks.Commander Zulu: ”Captain, Captain, we can’t hold them any longer, they are breaking through.”Captain Kirk:”Thank you for the update Mr. Zulu. Mr. Spock do you think these are intelligent life forms?”Mr. Spock: ”That is highly illogical Captain.”Then the away team hear a distant screamCaptain Kirk: ”What was that?” Commander Zulu: ”Captain, that was Ensign Roberts, he’s just been infected.”Captain Kirk. ”I think it’s time to leave.”Captain Kirk then gets out his communicater and says: ”Beam us up spotty”I am fully aware that suffering from acne is no laughing matter. I have never suffered from acne. But, for more than 20 years I suffered from rosacea which is just as debillitating. The point I’m trying to put across is, that I don’t of dispute the clinical results or its effectiveness. However, I don’t believe this is a long term solution as it fails to treat the root cause. Furthermore, the cost of using MyZeno if very high. Cost of TreatmentLet’s the put the spotlight (sorry about the unintentional pun ) on the cost. MyZeno claims that it takes 1-2 counts to treat a single spot, pimple or zit over a 24 hour period. A 90-count tip costs $35. This means that each spot, pimple or zit will cost around $0.3 to remove Plus of course the initial $100 dollar for the electronic device. Not only is the cost extensive, but so is the time needed to treat each individual spot, pimple or zit, that MyZeno claims to be two and a half minutes:Short Term Treatment OnlyMyZeno or other electronic devices of this type can only treat existing spots. However, they cannot prevent further outbreaks as they fail to treat the root cause. This means that the sufferer will be hit with constant rising acne treatment costs. My Opinion,MyZeno is ideal for those who need to rid get the odd pimple here and there very quickly. However, if you want to try and treat mild acne with this. I recommend that this is used in conjunction with a topical treament that helps to prevent acne outbreaks. This of course will help to limit some of the sunbstantial costs. http://acne.carecenterlink.com

Acne Prevention – How To Fight Acne Before It Happens!

13 Nov

Author: Allan Johns
Source: isnare.com

Acne is not the same as having a few zits, or a few pimples appearing on your face. Acne can even spread to different parts of the body, including your neck, your back, and your chest, and can be a very embarrassing skin condition. Those who have severe acne should most certainly seek the advice of a dermatologist for possible treatment options. For those who do not have acne, most of the time, you can prevent it from ever occurring. The following paragraphs will take a look at a few ways to prevent this skin condition.

Diet

Most people do not realize it, but our skin is the largest organ that expels waste from our bodies, in conjunction with our intestines, bladders, and colons. Because of this, how we eat will be reflected in by the condition of our skin. By eliminating unhealthy foods from our diets, we are decreasing the amount of toxin being expelled from our pores. Thus, we can help prevent an acne outbreak from development by eating a healthier diet. Nutrients recommended to add to your diet to help with acne prevention include:

? zinc
? vitamin A
? vitamin E
? vitamin B6

Each of these vitamins and minerals can aid in the prevention of acne in their own way. While zinc, especially in the form of zinc gluconate or zinc sulfate, can reduce the androgenic hormonal effects on our skin. Vitamin A can help reduce sebum production. Vitamin E helps protect skin cell membrane from damage, as well as helps maintain healthy skin my eliminating harmful free radicals from our bodies, that can often be generated during physical activities. Vitamin B6 helps prevent premenstrual acne, and reduce the sensitivity to the effects of testosterone. By adding foods rich in these vitamins and nutrients to your diet, you can reduce your chances of getting acne.

Exercise

Getting regular exercise can also help prevent acne. When we exercise, we are increasing the blood flow to our skin, and providing more oxygen to our skin cells. Sweating moderately also cleans our skin pores from the inside out, also aiding in the prevention of acne. Regular exercise and moderate sweating are excellent ways of helping to prevent acne, but taking a shower immediately afterwards is very important.

Detoxification

Detoxification is the process of removing harmful toxins from our bodies. Many different types of cleansers are available to help prevent acne, including:

? colon cleanses
? liver flushes
? enemas

When there is a toxin build up in vital parts of our digestive system, the toxins begin to excrete themselves from our skin pores, increasing the chances of an acne outbreak. By eliminating the build up of toxins, we are helping to prevent acne.

Acne, Sebum & Soap

12 Nov

Author: CD Mohatta
Source: isnare.com

Sebum is commonly associated with acne. It is believed that excess sebum causes acne and that sebum production is one of the main causes of sebum. In a recent study done at the Seoul National University, research was conducted to find a precise relation between acne and sebum. The study found that-

The subjects with acne had higher sebum on the skin. Compared to subject without acne. The study also found out that there was no direct relation between the quantity of acne lesions and sebum production. The research has concluded that patients with acne have higher sebum production but that increased level of sebum does not directly cause acne. That means that only excess sebum does not cause more acne, but some other factors may be involved.

Sebum and its role in Acne formation-

Sebum is produced by sebaceous glands. When the sebum gets accumulated in the gland, acne forms. If bacteria invaded the fluid, the acne gets infected. Even if you have a oily skin you may not develop acne unless the gland gets blocked. If the gland is open the sebum will pour out on the skin. With blockage of the gland, sebum gets accumulated and acne forms.

Therefore if you have acne, try to keep the glands open. Also try to keep bacteria away. If the gland is open excess sebum will not cause acne. The more important factor in causing acne is therefore blockage of the gland.

Acne treatment is a tough job for one who has it. They want acne to disappear overnight. But that does not happen. Soap has a role in treatment of acne. Some patients use soaps that peel off the skin and make it very dry assuming that acne will be treated faster. Does that really help or irritate the skin further? Some patients want to feel the skin soft and use soap with moisturizer. Some want the soap to have good perfume and want to feel good after washing. What kind of soap works well for acne patients? Let us find out.

Let us begin with the simple question- why do we use soap? We use soap to remove all the dirt, grime and impurity from the skin. Every other factor such as perfume etc. is secondary. Does your soap emulsify all the dirt and other impurities on your skin? Do you feel that your skin looks very clean after washing? If yes, that soap is right for you if you have acne. What about soap that removes more oils from the skin and makes it dry to very dry? This kind of soap is used because many people believe that oil or sebum alone is the main cause of acne. Please note here that sebum is one of the causes of acne, but by itself it cannot cause acne. If the gland opening is clear the excess oil/sebum will flow away and no acne will form. Therefore stop irritating your acne with harsh soaps. A moisturizer has no role to play in acne treatment. It keeps the moisture in and keeps skin hydrated.

Try to use a neutral soap with pH of 7. Acidic soap will cause unnecessary irritation. First look at the main function of soap, which is cleansing property. Think of perfume etc. later. Wash your face gently twice a day and dry the skin. Apply your topical medicine after that. It will reach the depth of skin faster.
