When treating acne or after acne has cleared, sometimes scarring may occur. This maybe in the form of raised or depressed skin patches or discoloration of the skin. This is very irritating and depressing for people as the scars may be worse than the original acne breakouts.
Here are some dos for acne scarring:
Do drink lots of water everyday. The water will help in the removal of toxins that were introduced to your skin during the treatment of acne. These toxins may be causing your scarring. Also some treatments call for the drying out of your skin to beat the acne. It may just be a simple thing as re-hydrating your skin to get rid of your acne scarring.
Do eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins A and E have retinoid. These not only help with your eyesight (look up at the derivation of the word RETINA), but also induce the formation of collagen. Collagen is a complex protein that is responsible for the stretching out of your skin, which removes depressed and raised scars. Cucumber and tomato are especially rich in vitamin E hence is used in spas and beauty parlours to get rid of sagging eyes.
Visit a dermatologist if need be. He may require that you get laser or dermal-abrasion resurfacing that you may not be competent enough to do at home. He may also prescribe certain medications that are suited to your condition
Do have patience. Your skin regenerates it self after a while. So in your next skin cycle, the scars may be gone.
Here is what you should NOT do:
Do not burst or prick your pimples. These will only cause bleeding and further scarring. The blood clotting process induces keratinisation (hardening of you skin cells due to the introduction of the complex protein keratin, ordinarily used by the body in nail and hair strengthening).
Do not use oil-based soaps and creams. These will not only induce further break outs but will cause scars to be fortified by fat which is harder to get rid of.
Do not start total scar treatment before you have successfully completed your acne treatment. This is because the drugs may conflict and cause further breakout or worse scarring.
Do not be worried too much about your scars. Advances in medicine and technology will resolve your problem in time. In fact treating your acne was harder! The scars may fade away once the chemicals used in acne treatment are ejected from the body.
